The Flying Scotsman Rally Europe’s premier event for vintage motor cars. There is a definite magic about it, it is escapism at its very best, providing an opportunity to abscond from the tumult of the modern world and drift back to a time when the roads were not so saturated, and life was simpler. Sounds good, doesn’t it? Well, HERO-ERA would like to extend an invitation to board the time machine and join in with this celebration of pre-war motoring, in 2025 on the 15th edition.
The next adventure will depart into the North Yorkshire Moors and scenic Yorkshire Dales, as the route chases the Pennines into Northumberland and onto the overnight halt in Newcastle; then heading through some classic and some new venues into Edinburgh, with the final leg revving northwards to the regal, world-famous, Gleneagles Hotel.
Each day will be packed full of fine roads, tremendous company, friendly competition and of course, exquisite cars. We hope to see you in Yorkshire in April 2025.
Do you want to enjoy the scenic route of the Flying Scotsman in your vintage car, but want to skip the regularity sections? Enter the Flying Scotsman LITE; which is designed to avoid the regularity sections entirely, where possible, whilst still providing the same high quality vintage motoring experience. Tests are still tackled, if crews would like to.

Event Schedule
Scrutineering, Documentation & Prologue - 03 April 2025
Scrutineering and Documentation sessions will take place Thursday 10am – 3pm from the luxurious Rudding Park, Harrogate. In a new introduction to the Flying Scotsman there will be a short prologue, approximately 50 miles, late Thursday afternoon to shakedown those cars and brains before the events sets off in full.
The day finishes off with a welcome dinner in the evening as crews prepare to tackle the much anticipated return to the ‘East Coast Mainline’
Harrogate to Newcastle - 04 April 2025
After the start signal turns green in Harrogate crews will follow the track north, taking in the rolling North Yorkshire Moors and scenic Yorkshire Dales as the route chases the Pennines into Northumberland and onto the overnight halt in Newcastle. The competition will start mild as crews are eased back into the way of things, but with a selection of fine venues crews will soon find themselves in the thick of competition.
Newcastle to Edinburgh - 05 April 2025
The second full day starts with sights firmly set on the scenic Northumberland coastline with its miles of open beaches and ever-changing topography. The route steams into the quiet, scenic and ever-challenging remote highways that make up the Scottish Borders. We will see the return of some classic venues, as well as some newly discovered ones, as crews head to the overnight halt in Edinburgh.
Edinburgh to Gleneagles - 06 April 2025
From Edinburgh the final leg of the journey continues ‘full steam ahead’ with a fine route staying on the eastern side of Scotland and heading north before our intrepid crews eventually turn Southwards and make tracks for the end of the line at the world-famous Gleneagles hotel.
