Back to School for HERO Events with a Third Field Trip to Iceland
After a long summer break the HERO rallying season, and the HERO Cup, returns in epic style, with an international adventure to the wild and rugged landscape of Iceland. The Icelandic Saga kicks off a busy few months of Regularity Rallying, with the third edition of this trip around the land of fire and ice.
7 Days | 1223 Miles | 18 Tests | 31 RegularitiesPitched as an intermediate adventure, crews will enjoy seven days of competition around the island, covering some 1223 miles (1968 km) in a mixture of challenging and picturesque Regularities that wind around the natural wonders of this land, as well as opportunities to put pedal to the metal in off-road speed Tests.
The real draw of Iceland is to experience driving on its deserted rural roads, in amongst the unique and breath-taking scenery that waits around every turn. Stunning vistas will stretch out before the competitors as the route takes in some of Iceland’s most compelling and striking natural wonders, including the Godafoss Waterfalls, Myvatn Baths as well as numerous hot springs, Glaciers and geysers that dot the landscape.
Cars from 1939 right through to 1983 will contest the rally, with particular standouts being the 1958 Lancia Aurelia B20S of Mauro and Anna Faldini, as well as the 1972 Alfa Romeo GTV 2000 driven by Darren Bowler and navigated by Gary Hogg. One can imagine that these cars will look particularly regal against the natural wonders of this island, but in truth all of the classic and vintage cars will match their home for the week in terms of beauty and style.
It is impossible to predict who will triumph in Iceland this September, what is certain is that over the seven days of competition the lucky crews that have made the journey to this fantastic island will have seen some of the most awe-inspiring scenery and driven some of the best roads that the world has to offer. If you aren’t fortunate enough to be there then join in the adventure with regular updates across HERO’s website and social media channels, it’s sure to leave you feeling enthralled, inspired and perhaps just a little bit envious.
