The Island of Speed ready for the Three Legs of Mann

The Island of Speed is ready for one of HERO events most exacting rallies that tax car, driver and particularly the navigator over a variety of surfaces with mixed weather expected during two days of hard competition. There is even a possibility of snow over the higher ground on Saturday afternoon!

The Three Legs of Mann will cover nearly 400 miles, with 26 Tests and 22 Regularities including a night section to spook even the most experienced of navigators. This labyrinth of roads and lanes cris- cross each other, some following famous rally routes of Manx rallies from the past. From 7.00 – 12.00pm on Friday, the night sections will provide six hours hard driving over Legs One and Two.

Everywhere the competitors go they will be reminded of an island steeped in motor sport history. From early speed tests along the Douglas sea front past hotel HQ at the Palace, to the Laxey Wheel and Snaefel mountain that dominates the centre of the island and overlooks one of the fastest parts of the TT course.

The TT track rises out of Ramsey through famous bends such as Ramsey Hairpin followed by the Gooseneck past the plantations. Riders past and present are honoured up here as well, Guthries, Hailwood’s, Dukes and of course Joey’s, after the late, great Joey Dunlop, who’s statue sits atop the Bungalow surveying the competitors below.

Back at the TT Grandstand the HERO rally crews will finally finish where they started. Fittingly this where the great heroes of two and four wheels were awarded their trophies after conquering the island, or in our case, the Three Legs of Mann.
