1966 Triumph TR4A (LHD)
BOOK TRIUMPH TR4A 1966 NOW
One of the best handling cars on the Arrive & Drive fleet due to its uprated chassis and independent rear suspension.
Sensible engine modifications coupled with twin side draught Weber carburettors means this TR4A goes as well as it looks. In the summertime, the vehicle can be used with its soft-top, come the winter and the Surrey Roof means things can be made that bit more comfortable.
The TR4A was an evolution of the TR4, updated with a new chassis. It was hoped the new, but more complex, independent rear suspension would address the buying public's desire for more comfortable riding sports cars.
It has been estimated that 75 percent of TR4A were built with IRS. In 1965 the TR4A IRS sold in the UK for approximately £968, with wire wheels being another £36, overdrive £51, heater £13 and seat belts £4 each; it sold for just under $2500 in the United States. After successful lobbying Stateside, a lower priced TR4A was introduced without independent rear suspension to reduce the cost.
